Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky (1840-1893) is the greatest Russian composer not only in native music culture, but also in the world one.

From early childhood the ancestral home was filled with music, there were musical evenings arranged and he had been doing music since he was five-year-old. By the age of eight, Pyotr Ilyich was able read sheet music. However, his parents sent the boy to the Imperial Law School in St. Petersburg. Having graduated, Tchaikovsky enlisted to the Ministry of Justice, but decided to continue his music education. In 1861, he entered the Musical Classes of the Russian Musical Society. In 1862, they became the Conservatory of St. Petersburg. Pyotr Ilyich graduated with honours in 1865 and got an invitation to stay. The majority of his creations was written in the years of working.

Tchaikovsky travelled a lot since 1879. His international popularity increased. By the end of the 80s, he often acted as a conductor. In the beginning of the 90s, he got many invitations from different European cities. His last years he spent near Klin. One of the houses that Tchaikovsky rented in 1897 was arranged for the museum, actioning nowadays. Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky died in 1893 in St. Petersburg, after having caught cholera. He was buried in the Alexander Nevsky Monastery in the necropolis of masters of the arts.

The nurse of the Russian musicians, the Moscow State Conservatory is called in his name as well as the prestige international competition of academic performers – the biggest event with a global reach.
